#WhatsYourStory Project

Mapping and documenting of Namibian visual artists in global art discourse.

Lead Curator & Project Manager: Desiree !Nanuses

The #WhatsYourStory project was inspired by the realisation that Namibian visual art heritage and legacy and its relationship with the people (past, present & future) lack consistent and active platforms. It serves as an exhibition & publication series with a focus on public art.

The project interrogated the current Namibian art scholarship and addressed the historical erasure and non-existence of indigenous practitioners in the production of contemporary Namibian art.

Phase 01 introduced the general public to the NAGN collections and public art as community and grassroots social practice.

Phase 02 responded to COVID-19 pandemic protocols, moving the project to the NAGN’s digital platforms (social media & YouTube).

Phase 03 served as mapping of Namibian artists country wide.

In my lead role, I oversaw all logistical preparations, and functioned as editor/contributor of the project publication, focusing on public art, documentation and archives.
